Spirit of Truth
In 2009, while seeking to better understand scripture so I could better understand God and draw closer to him, I saw prayer for God to send the Spirit of truth to help me understand. Of the Spirit of truth Jesus said,
When he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he will not speak of himself; but whatsoever he hears, that will he speak: and he will show you things to come. (John 16:13)
I had never thought of this as something I needed to pray for. I thought he had been sent and I didn’t need to do anything. That day I saw it differently and asked God to send him to guide me.
“Father, in the name of Jesus I thank you that you send your Spirit of truth to guide and lead us into all the truth and show us things to come. I ask you to send your Spirit of truth to guide and lead us into all the truth and show us things to come.”
The results were clear and amazing. I quickly added that prayer to my daily prayer. Here are some examples of perception of truth gained by the help of the Spirit of truth.
Believing is examining the evidence of something and measuring it as true (conforming to truth).
Faith is believing that something or someone is a reliable source of what one needs
is a source that can be trusted to supply ones needs
has the supply needed
won't withhold the supply when it is needed
faith that doesn't have actions that rely on the source trusted is unused faith - dead faith
Trust is the action of actually relying on the thing or person to supply the need. Trust risks the consequences of the need not being met.
Doubt is believing that two, or more, persons or things are reliable sources of what one needs (or believing that two more conflicting things are true)
One cannot believe that God is a source of supply and something else is a source of supply and receive that supply from God.
I cannot imagine trying to go through a day without the benefit of the guidance God gives through the Spirit of truth. One thing that particularly surprised me is that the Spirit of truth does indeed guide into ALL truth, not just truth regarding scripture. Every aspect of life is benefited.
From my experience this is an essential prayer. This should be one of the first prayers a person should pray the beginning of each day.
